Dear Vets for Russell;
I'm from California and I wish to get rid of Murtha badly. Have you ever thought of advertising in the military newspapers especially the ones for the Marines, and ask service members to send their absentee votes to Murtha's district in Johnstown? I understand that military personnel overseas can choose wherever they want to send their votes... Especially when service people live in cities in blue states such as California, Mass, Wash, and Illinois, their votes are basically wasted against democrat incumbents. I say concentrate their votes against Murtha and boot him out! Paul from California

Paul,

Thank you. Wish this idea could work! It is true that Murtha needs to go.

Unfortunately, it is not correct that Veterans overseas can vote in any state they wish. They must vote voter in the state that they have declared as their home of record in their military records. It is true they may change this location as long as they 1) do not have family members stationed at their return duty station or home state, 2) can show they have been stationed prior to deployment overseas in that state or the state is recorded as the point at which they entered active duty.

You cannot claim one state as your current home of record and then vote in a different state. Finally, you do have to be preregistered in the State of Record to vote except for the Presidential election, then for that race only there are forms that a military person's unit voting officer may complete to be sent with your federal absentee voting form.

If they wish to vote for any other race than for President, then they would need to be a registered voter in that state.

I doubt that military who have their home of record in a state without income tax or ones that do not tax military) would be interested in changing their voter registration to PA where they would be liable for PA taxes, rules and regulations.

Also voting is an indication of intent to be a resident of a state and this could create problems for their spouses and dependents who are protected under certain guidelines because of their military sponsor's status.

But we can all agree that the John Murtha needs to go! Best regards to you in California. Hope you all can eventually vote out of office another great embarrassment for the U.S. - Nancy Pelosi.
